Aurora movie theater shooting day 43: Defense expected to call more doctors who treated James Holmes
Day 43 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. Today, the defense is expected to call more doctors who treated the gunman after the shooting. During the course of the trial, prosecutors will argue that Holmes, the admitted gunman, was sane when he went into the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater and opened fire on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 70. His defense attorneys will try to spare Holmes’ life by arguing that he was insane. 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel.com will have gavel to gavel coverage of the trial starting at 8:15 a.m. (MST) everyday and ending around 5:30 p.m. (MST) Watch new live video on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/7NewsDenver/live Additional resources:LIVE VIDEO & BLOG: http://bit.ly/theatertrialTIMELINE of the case: http://bit.ly/theatertimelineJURY PROFILE: http://bit.ly/theaterjury CONTINUING COVERAGE: http://bit.ly/theatercoverage
I find the pace with which Dr.Gur speaks to be approriate in that it allows the jury to really hear the whole message. Some witnesses speak so fast, and our brains have not even processed what was said. King is adjustng his questioning based on her cues. This cannot be rushed. For a bilingual doctor to use complex ideas and terms so easily is impressive. The PT spent many weeks on their case, and to complain about a few days for the DT seems unfair.
I'm most interested to hear how she determined that he was legally insane at the time of the commission of the crime. That's what matters here, so I really want to hear her logical progression to that conclusion.
I think that King was shaken by the fact she was not board certified and it has taken until now for him to get back on track. Dr Gru is well qualified and knowledgeable but her lack of how to present in a courtroom is problematic. No matter how smart and intelligent you are, if you don't have skill set to relay that information like both Dr Reid and Dr Manguso did for the jury, it not going to go over well. The reason to become a Forensic expert it also to learn how to present testimony that communicates your point of view to both attorneys, jurors and the judge.
She is just educating the jury about the disease right now. When I treat my patients, they want me to explain the disease and how it came about... so I am happy to do that...this is what she is doing first. Then she will get to specifics when it is time.
