My opinion on board certification. Would you be treated by a plastic surgeon who was not board-certified? A CPA who was not board-certified? A lawyer who was not a member of the bar? An architect who was not board-certified? I worked for CPA firms for years and one of my employers thought he could save a lot of money by not being a member of the AICPA or CSCPA. Interestingly enough, by being members of the AICPA and CSCPA, one has the opportunity to attend CPE classes at a much-reduced rate. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.
Bottom line - it's expensive to pay the dues and be board-certified, but it's worth it.
Since there is such a lack of knowledge in our society about mental illness, she HAS to explain things fully. Also to show how far removed from normal thinking and behaviour someone like JH has when they are in a state of psychiatric medical emergency.
Is it part of the training/education of a forensic expert (fill in the blank) witness to answer questions as succinctly as possible, e.g., yes/no, or to give a long explanation, or something in between? I know she's not forensically trained, and I am wondering if this is something she should at least be aware of. (Sorry for the long question)
king needs to get a better handle on his witness, rather than putting her on the spot like that. quit cutting her off if you don't want her to talk over you.. duh. sorry to interrupt you, but i'm going to keep doing it.'
If JH was so delusional around the time of the shooting (and had been seeing a University of Colorado clinician), why wasn't he seeing someone of Dr. Gur's caliber, thus making her current in-depth discussion of his illness relevant? Now, we are back-tracking & deeming him delusional/schizophrenic, after the fact. This is interesting to me...and, I work in the medical field.
Based on Dr. Gur's previous court experiences, as they were discussed yesterday, can anyone remember if she ever made it to cross exam- and if so, what was the outcome of those cases. I thought some of them didn't make it to trial. ?
Again....I go back to the comment that someone made a week earlier or so. You cannot plan a psychotic break or when your going to have a schizophrenic episode yet he circled the date in July on his calendar ahead of time...that's not psychotic. That's having a mission and following through with it. He had a plan!
