Day 44 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. Today, schizophrenia expert Dr. Raquel Gur will continue to testify.During the course of the trial, prosecutors will argue that Holmes, the admitted gunman, was sane when he went into the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater and opened fire on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 70. His defense attorneys will try to spare Holmes’ life by arguing that he was insane. 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel.com will have gavel to gavel coverage of the trial starting at 8:15 a.m. (MST) everyday and ending around 5:30 p.m. (MST) Watch new live video on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/7NewsDenv... I have been watching the trial on and off for about a month now. To me all the defence is trying to do is plant the seed of reasonable doubt. It is going to come down to the judge's instruction before deliberation.
Signing off this site and moving to NBC. I have been with the Denver Channel since the start, but the incredible lack of respect for this woman - Dr. Gur - is sickening.
When this doctor started yesterday, I had very little hope for her credibility based on her roundabout ways of answering questions. Now, I realize that she is wicked smart and knows what she is talking about. Mind you, I don't think she has too much sway because she did not know the defendant from the start, and I am sure the state will point that out.
i remember when they cited his "fear that the government is poisoning the water" as a delusion, but there is a large debate about flouride right now...he's still crazy but he is right about the water
Watching this trial reminds me of how people used to go to debates prior to t.v. If I didn't have a horse in this race, it would be even more facinating to watch the verbal sword play. Unfortuantely I have a vested interest - it is my town and my daughte'rs friend that died.
It seems to me that SO much of what King is going over is to pre-rebut all the questions he knows are coming from GB. This takes away from relevant testimony IMO.
I am also vested, that was my stomping ground.. My best friend (from H.S.) her daughter was hurt, eviscerated. I am trying my hardest to keep an open mind. Sorry for your lost.
nastiest blog ever--good thing these people aren't on the jury. Every one in this country has a vested interest, but the blog is particularly biased through emotions and can only insult . this has been a problem since Day 1 , but NBC doesn't have a blog. The bias has been cultivated and many are just out for a sanctioned killing in CO
I do not believe I have been nasty, nor have many people here. If this was any other situation, I would have unending rivers of compassion for JH. I enjoy, unfortuantely, watching both sides make gaffs and fools of themselves. However, there may be mental illness, but it does not negate the fact that he admitted he knew what he was doing was wrong, that he researched how to present an insanity defense, and that he killed 12 people, physically injured 70, and mentally terrorized an entire community. Bias? You bet your sweet bippy we are biased.
Well, that lawyer story just hurt the defense big time...he was able to function even though he was starting to show signs...this illustrates the difference between clinical and forensic psychiatry...Dr. Gur doesn't even know she just punched Holmes in the face...
King asked her to give an example of a high IQ "functioning" normally and as soon as Dr. Gur said "a lawyer" everyone broke out laughing before she could continue.
She is being allowed to lecture again. This would be facinating in any other setting. She is making me tired and frustrated. I wonder how others in the courtroom are handling this.
(still having trouble w/reply button) well said DocJ,,, I can relate, being from Wisconsin we've had our share of mass murders over the years,, understand completely how you folks in Colorado feel
I hope it is addressed that he planned the day (circling it on the calendar) the shooting. So can it really be a mental break? Can you plan what day you will have a mental break?
IMO this blog is great. I don't have anyone that I can talk to about this case. Hubby and friends don't understand how I can watch this on my computer all day. And, if I do miss any of it I will watch it later but then I really miss the blog. The comments here are like having a conversation with people with a similar interest. There are other blogs that are much more hateful than this one.
