Dr. Gur said the gunman felt he was putting people out of their misery. She asked if he thought other people felt that way and said other people enjoy life. He seemed surprised.
Dr. Gur said she believes there would not have been a shooting if the gunman did not have his mental illness.
The gunman did not seem grandiose or self-important "at all," Dr. Gur said.
Dr. Gur: "The motivation for the shooting was to increase his self worth."
