Aurora movie theater shooting day 47: Defense to show video of James Holmes in custody
Day 47 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. Today, the defense plans to show video of Holmes in custody. During the course of the trial, prosecutors will argue that Holmes, the admitted gunman, was sane when he went into the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater and opened fire on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 70. His defense attorneys will try to spare Holmes’ life by arguing that he was insane. 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel.com will have gavel to gavel coverage of the trial starting at 8:15 a.m. (MST) everyday and ending around 5:30 p.m. (MST) Watch new live video on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/7NewsDenver/live Additional resources:LIVE VIDEO & BLOG: http://bit.ly/theatertrialTIMELINE of the case: http://bit.ly/theatertimelineJURY PROFILE: http://bit.ly/theaterjury CONTINUING COVERAGE: http://bit.ly/theatercoverage

I think there were 7 corrections officers in his cell at one point.

DT is going again to get the nonsensical interview video again
by Humble Pride7/10/2015 4:13:49 PM
Sometimes I wish there was audio. It'd be more interesting with audio.
by jward127/10/2015 4:13:52 PM
I dunno, I would think you could potentially try to kill yourself with clothing. That's the only reason I ask.

its all so blurry

@Delle (Me) His penis probably was cleaned before inserting the catheter (I had to do this as a medic while on the med-surg ward). They had to put it in as he was restrained and they probably wanted to monitor his urine output for med reasons.
by CindyL7/10/2015 4:16:47 PM
Angela, they have a special gown and they watch him 24/7 in the padded cell.
by Tammy Garrison7/10/2015 4:16:49 PM
What is the date of this video again? I think the defense always wants the jury to think that his acting psychotic episodes happened at the time of the shooting. BTW I might have a psychotic break if i just killed 12 people an maimed 70 more
by Trial watcher7/10/2015 4:16:53 PM
Is this the video that have been arguing about the last couple of days
by Dkf7/10/2015 4:16:56 PM
@ Angela He was given a suicide suit commonly called a blue taco which they are naked underneath and cannot use anything on the suit to harm themselves with.
by Abrandt7/10/2015 4:17:00 PM
its hard to see the video
by yolo7/10/2015 4:17:01 PM
This one is seriously a half hour of his just laying in the hospital bed... I'm sorry what's the point of it I'm lost!!
by LG7/10/2015 4:24:02 PM
Thanks for the info guys.

by Humble Pride7/10/2015 4:24:08 PM
what's the deal? is he just getting up put of bed every time they leave the room?
by emma7/10/2015 4:24:10 PM
Is this the video where he's hiding from the shadows?
by jward127/10/2015 4:24:13 PM
with all the advances in tech one would think that cctv would see improvement over the years
by JG7/10/2015 4:24:17 PM
well, imo, this is completely pointless to watch since it's so hard to see, can the jury even see this very well?
by colo7/10/2015 4:24:21 PM
Yeah, I can't make out what is happening.
by Kathy Sahu7/10/2015 4:24:22 PM
I think that is the video where he will hide under the blanket in order to hide from the shadow.
by Humble Pride7/10/2015 4:24:28 PM
You see this in prisons because 20% of prison population is seriously mentally ill.
%

Is this video an attempt to humanize JH do you think? Because I can't see it being of any evidentiary value.
by Alison7/10/2015 4:24:32 PM
I don't care if He was doing naked cartwheels in Nov, this has nothing to do with the time before and when the shooting happened.
by Abrandt7/10/2015 4:24:36 PM
According to several post here, this is pretty normal for inmates?? I wonder if AC would address it in cross.
by Suzanne7/10/2015 4:24:41 PM
can anyone tell what he is doing?
by happy7/10/2015 4:24:42 PM
lol I mean it's kind of funny..
by Della (Me)7/10/2015 4:24:43 PM
Why didn't they just leave an officer in there with him??
by Della (Me)7/10/2015 4:24:46 PM
I'm wondering if these videos are used more to draw sympathy...not so much to prove insanity...because it has been proven he is seriously mentally ill; which does not equal insanity....but as the jurors watch, they are also watching his parents reaction....and drawing on their own life experiences of being parents....hmm...so many layers of strategies to win..
by A.L.7/10/2015 4:24:53 PM
he's messing with things on the bed and himself just to cause issues i think...
The case I was on, also had the defendant doing the "poo thing" - in fact they have special cells for when prisoners act out so they can't fling the stuff in prison employees. I gather it's not that unusual. Also the defense in that case suggested that it was caused by being in isolation. I'm guessing JH is not enjoying solitary as much as he thought he would. Sorry, but this segment of the defense isn't moving me as I suspect the DT would hope. (Sort of the same reaction I had to the fake committing suicide with cardboard as a kid)
by Edy7/10/2015 4:27:58 PM
The defense really saved the best for last, didn't they?
by Keeter7/10/2015 4:28:02 PM
that's why they needed to put him in restraints which if he was on sudice watch i would have thought they would have done that to begin with at the hospital!!
by LG7/10/2015 4:28:06 PM
defiance
by wp7/10/2015 4:28:08 PM
every time they take a sheet away he uses another one to hide himself. Then he was able to get the fitted sheet off and over himself then they're trying the restrain him a little better I think.
by Della (Me)7/10/2015 4:28:16 PM
The whole thing is tragic on so many levels; for so many people :(
by sher7/10/2015 4:28:19 PM
What's going on? Is he just struggling and fiddling around causing the guards to keep coming back for half an hour?
by Malingering7/10/2015 4:28:26 PM
Attention Seeking.
by NT87/10/2015 4:28:28 PM
They are showing the video so that they can ask Gonglach about the discussion he had the next day with the defendant, I don't think it is going to fly with either the prosecution or the judge.
by Humble Pride7/10/2015 4:28:32 PM
What's more weird? 1) A mentally ill person playing with feces. 2) Watching a mentally ill person play with feces. 3) Reading comments about people who watch a mentally ill person play with feces.
by Patty Scabby7/10/2015 4:28:47 PM
@Patty HAHAHAHAHA!
