Judge Samour: Jurors should not go into deliberations thinking that life without parole is the appropriate sentence - they should be neutral.
by anica.padilla7/20/2015 6:01:53 PM
i saw the name of the jury foreman in a newsweek article. Was this inappropriate on their behalf?
by lk20157/20/2015 6:20:12 PM
Why does it matter 24 counts or 12 convictions?
by Suzanne7/20/2015 6:20:15 PM
blah blah blah, shes become irritating
by JG7/20/2015 6:20:16 PM
Yeah call it a mercy Killing.
by NT87/20/2015 6:20:19 PM
Nelson isn't getting much help from Higgs. She thinks better with King IMO.
by Kristle7/20/2015 6:20:31 PM
descriptions of the jurors did not have much about "open mind" about them the make-up of the jury was shocking----where was the defense .... I am sure they are good people, but their social and political makeup seemed very limited . It just makes me questions lots of things about this trial that just never set as having much mental diversity with my observation.. They decided as they decided, but really, death will not be a deterrent for others with that kind of mental illness symptom. However, guns are a huge killer. This could not have happened without firearms made available. Guns are more wicked than a mentally ill period. In fact, guns can make people mentally ill. Period.
by okx7/20/2015 6:20:34 PM
Nelson comes across bossy.
by Suzanne7/20/2015 6:20:35 PM
Orman should object to her lack of using real words. 'Your honor I'm not sure what a 'sinnance' is..'
by blue7/20/2015 6:38:07 PM
still think she would've done a better job on closings. King was SO not artful
by sher7/20/2015 6:38:10 PM
@okx I have a gun in my closet right now, loaded and hidden in a corner. It has been there for 2 years without being touched and it hasn't gone off yet meaning that the gun is not the killer. The killer is the person that picks up that gun and uses it for harm towards another. I use my gun to hunt and defend my house. Period. People that intend harm will find a way to get a gun. The reason I need a gun legally obtained is because if/when they break in my house, I can protect my family from being harmed and make sure that they don't get away with it.
by cardman7/20/2015 6:38:13 PM
Orman seems done with Nelson too!
by Kristle7/20/2015 6:38:16 PM
I agree Suzanne. I admit I've lost concentration a couple of times, lol, but it seems like she just disagrees with everything. I'm sure that 's not true. Maybe some caffeine will help me concentrate and follow her train of thought.
by ms7/20/2015 6:38:22 PM
@okx... You know I love a good debate. My guns have not made me mentally ill. Other countries that have outlaed guns have not found that It truly cuts down Killings, or even mass murders. People that want to kill will kill. There have been many cases in England, China, and Japan of people killing with knives, rocks, baseball bats, etc. you're right though, about The death penalty not really being a deterrent. Some thing just cannot be borne by society, though, and must result in an ultimate punishment.
by DocJ7/20/2015 6:38:26 PM
Is Ms. Nelson the one that was representing Dunlap, or is she the one that represented the guy that kidnapped and cut up the little girl in Wheatridge?
by DocJ7/20/2015 6:38:35 PM
not that fascinating, however I cannot do without hearing "court talk" and my beloved Judge Samour"s voice ;0)
by sher7/20/2015 6:38:39 PM
Judge has a big sigh "what else?!" LOL!!
by Kristle7/20/2015 6:38:42 PM
3 aggravating factors minus one mitigating factor = death.
Simple math for the jury of peers.
by Mark7/20/2015 6:38:46 PM
Play the word game all you want nelson, the DP is the ultimate out come
by NT87/20/2015 6:38:51 PM
Orman "I prefer the courts łanguage" LOL!
by Kristle7/20/2015 6:38:53 PM
Guns do not kill people. People chose to use the guns to kill. Guns do not pull there own trigger.
by Dkf7/20/2015 6:38:56 PM
And another slap down on Nelson.
by NT87/20/2015 6:38:58 PM
I'm always amazed by death penalty mentality. The same people who are against the death penalty probably would not have a moment's pause about abortion or euthanasia. I just don't get it.
by Nadine7/20/2015 6:39:06 PM
@lk2015 My understanding no jury names have been released
by LG7/20/2015 6:39:09 PM
Are they breaking for lunch??
by Kristle7/20/2015 6:39:11 PM
the Newsweek article I can find, says the jury foreman is the suvivor from Columbine, but didn't have a name
by okx7/20/2015 6:39:14 PM
@okx that's because they (the media) won't have names until the trial is over. which is why we know them by their numbers.. also 'guns can make people mentally ill' ??? guess i missed that part of the dt's case.
by blue7/20/2015 6:41:15 PM
Guns can make people mentally ill? LOL How did King ever miss that one?? (sarcasm)
by Mark7/20/2015 6:42:33 PM
@ok The Defense can and does strike people from the Jury pool. If the Defense didn't like a Columbine survivor on the Jury they could have used a strike on them.
by Abrandt7/20/2015 6:42:39 PM
Judge Samours sounds like he wants to be done with this.
by EZ7/20/2015 6:42:41 PM
@okx - It has been known since the beginning their was a juror that survived Columbine, they go by numbers not names
by Just Thinkin7/20/2015 6:42:44 PM
When do the jurors return?
by nycgirl7/20/2015 6:45:41 PM
@nycgirl The jurors return Wednesday morning.
by anica.padilla7/20/2015 6:46:07 PM
Nelson probably wins at Scrabble.....
by Kristle7/20/2015 6:46:20 PM
Not touching the gun debate, that is best left for a different forum, not for this blog that is being kindly sponsored by D7
by Just Thinkin7/20/2015 6:46:25 PM
okx, I think you do them a disservice. The jury cried while the verdict was being read and one person cried when it was announce she was one it. I believe they take their job very seriously. I agree that mental health issues need to be addressed for these type of events, but it is way too late when once an act is committed. We need to figure out what to do about it in the very early stages while still maintaining individual rights.
by Tammy Garrison7/20/2015 6:46:32 PM
Idk if the Judge wants to wrap it up before lunch or what.
by Kristle7/20/2015 6:46:35 PM
@Blue... Okx posted that about the jury's name and Newsweek .... because k2015 posted they read Newsweek had posted the jury foreman's name... but NO NAMES of jury's have been release!
by LG7/20/2015 6:46:47 PM
Well I guess if you were on the losing side of this, you either quit, or decided to go Snarky.
by NT87/20/2015 6:46:54 PM
@nycgirl Weds
by LG7/20/2015 6:46:58 PM
@Anica - you wrote in all caps. Are you yelling at us?? LOL : )
by Suzanne7/20/2015 6:47:01 PM
I"m naive, guess I thought penalty phase instructions were pretty standard .
by sher7/20/2015 6:47:04 PM
Where will James Holmes serve his time. Whether death or life, he'll still be in prison. A maximum security? Supermax? Any ideas?
by Nadine7/20/2015 6:50:39 PM
@NT8- she choose Snarky!
by Victoria7/20/2015 6:50:43 PM
I guess they fixed it but they did publish his name at first.
