Aurora movie theater shooting trial day 20: Videotaped interviews with gunman to be played in court
Day 20 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. Today, prosecutors plan to question state-appointed psychiatrist Dr. William Reid to the stand and play videotaped interviews between the doctor and the gunman. During the course of the trial, prosecutors will argue that Holmes, the admitted gunman, was sane when he went into the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater and opened fire on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 70. His defense attorneys will try to spare Holmes’ life by arguing that he was insane. 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel.com will have gavel to gavel coverage of the trial starting at 8:15 a.m. (MST) everyday and ending around 5:30 p.m. (MST) Watch new live video on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/7NewsDenver/live Additional resources:LIVE VIDEO & BLOG: http://bit.ly/theatertrialTIMELINE of the case: http://bit.ly/theatertimelineJURY PROFILE: http://bit.ly/theaterjury CONTINUING COVERAGE: http://bit.ly/theatercoverage
@ Tara they're subpoenaed they don't have a choice.
by Me5/28/2015 4:31:49 PM
Tara...I believe the victims are compelled to testify...not certain...
by Robin5/28/2015 4:31:50 PM
Mr. Phelps was originally witness #122
by Rheba5/28/2015 4:33:17 PM
Thank you Me...:)
by Robin5/28/2015 4:33:34 PM
Is it typical for the witness to be sitting along side the prosecution
by manda5/28/2015 4:33:53 PM
Here's a link to my witness list for the new folks. bit.ly

by NT85/28/2015 4:35:50 PM
Why has DT suddenly started wanting to approach for any objection other than 401 or 403? Are they catching on that every objection is being analyzed and made fun of?
by DocJ5/28/2015 4:35:54 PM
I believe defense is on the left.
by Tammy Garrison5/28/2015 4:35:57 PM
@manda, where the witness box sits depends on how the courtroom is set up. Each courtroom is different.
by Liz5/28/2015 4:36:00 PM
During the break I was re reading the notebook and noticed on page 29 the 2nd sentence by the 3 o's in a pyramid shape says," This is widely understood that murder being unjust."
by Abrandt5/28/2015 4:39:19 PM
Objectng to FBI evidence, Set up to lose.
by NT85/28/2015 4:39:50 PM
I'm not sure about the witness stand placement but I believe that all these courtrooms are set up differently... Since the jury is on the opposite side.
by Casey5/28/2015 4:39:53 PM
The DT is just simply annoying...in my humble opinion...
by Robin5/28/2015 4:39:54 PM
@manda. The 2 men are not witnesses per say...they are the lead detectives assisting the prosecution with the case and are called on from time to time...
by Valm465/28/2015 4:39:56 PM
@manda - if you are talking about The officers (Phelps being one) they are advisors for the prosecution not just witnesses.
by NH5/28/2015 4:40:00 PM
@DT, I noticed that yesterday that kept asking to approach for objections.
by Liz5/28/2015 4:40:01 PM
@Abrandt: I interpreted that as is referring to the previous sentence about murder.
by anica.padilla5/28/2015 4:40:01 PM
I have been watching from beginning and just wanted to see if my comments work
by noodle5/28/2015 4:40:03 PM
Oh geez, I meant DocJ...not DT...not good at multitasking today
by Liz5/28/2015 4:40:05 PM
I wish a the judge would make them cut back on the approaches to the bench.
by Suzanne5/28/2015 4:40:10 PM
The DT did a lot of this yesterday with bench conferences about the dating site emails. This witness mentioned the email name, ClassicJimbo or something so maybe it's another email content issue.
by Kristle5/28/2015 4:40:10 PM
no comments working today?
by noodle5/28/2015 4:40:15 PM
by Niki C5/28/2015 4:40:16 PM
@Liz...Thanks for the explanation.
by manda5/28/2015 4:40:16 PM
hey guys :)
by James Holmes 5/28/2015 4:40:18 PM
I bet we lose at least 1/2 hour a day on approaches.
by Suzanne5/28/2015 4:40:19 PM
Judge said yesterday about all these objections are based on the attorneys just doing their job and that the jury shouldn't hold the objections or his rulings on the objections against the attorneys.
by Casey5/28/2015 4:40:30 PM
@NikiC: All the victims in the case are listed in this document outlining the charges against the gunman: www.courts.state.co.us
by anica.padilla5/28/2015 4:41:39 PM
Anyone watch any other trials live like this? I'm only occasionally able to find them now. Court TV used to air live trial coverage but that's gone now. I followed the entire Casey Anthony trial.
by Angela Freeman5/28/2015 4:41:43 PM
From what the analyst said yesterday when @7 asked why so many approaches, he said that objections that require context or some description of their reasoning, the judge expects a side bar and doesn't want that aired in open court. That explained a lot to me.
by Niki C5/28/2015 4:41:55 PM
Whoever is using the name James Holmes as their name on this chat isn't funny!
by Liz5/28/2015 4:42:41 PM
by Niki C5/28/2015 4:42:50 PM
@Abrandt: I saw that in the notebook too, and was thinking it goes back to him KNOWING it was wrong to do but he had no choice (broken mind).

Agreed @Liz - very poor taste
by Niki C5/28/2015 4:43:23 PM
@Valm46 & @NH - Thank you for the explanation. That makes sense now.
by manda5/28/2015 4:43:24 PM
@"James Holmes" - not cool to use a display name like that. You're in a chat room with people who knew the victims. Sick thing to do.
by NH5/28/2015 4:43:34 PM
@Angela, I follow live trials all the time.
by Liz5/28/2015 4:43:39 PM
Agreed Liz...Not Funny!!! :(
by Robin5/28/2015 4:43:48 PM
I agree with Liz. Where is the moderates to delete that garbage?
