Aurora movie theater shooting trial day 33: Prosecution expected to call remaining victims

Day 33 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. In the next few days, prosecutors are expected to call the remaining victims who have not testified. During the course of the trial, prosecutors will argue that Holmes, the admitted gunman, was sane when he went into the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater and opened fire on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 70. Yesterday, Judge Samour said the prosecution expects to finish questioning their witnesses Friday (June 19.) The defense said they can not be ready to begin questioning their witnesses until next Thursday (June 25.)

Is that the norm? The PT finishes and the DT isn't ready for almost another week? That sounds lame to me. I'd think they'd be getting they stuff together this whole time.

@FMM: The defense team has to fly in many experts to testify - so travel plans have to be rearranged.

I tried to post this yesterday, but maybe too late. It kills me to defend King, but he has to coordinate witness and flying them out to Colorado. So I get that, but in general King drives me crazy. That is why several times he has asked when he could expect to start to get people lined up.

Judge discussing scheduling: If prosecution plans to rest Friday, which is a short day, the court could either take Friday off, return Monday, and take Tuesday and Wednesday off, or finish Friday and take Monday through Wednesday off.

Prosecution prefers to wraps Friday. Jurors will be told they "tentatively" have Monday through Wednesday off.

I think the prosecution will end with Ashley Moser. And they want her to be their last witness before the weekend. As it should be. Now her testimony will sit with the jury for five days, thanks to the defense.

The fact that the defense needs more time doesn't (necessarily) mean they're unprepared. They scheduled travel plans for expert witnesses and victims who have to fly in, and those people can't necessarily change their plans at the last minute.
