Aurora movie theater shooting trial day 40: Defense may introduce new jail video
Day 40 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. During the course of the trial, prosecutors will argue that Holmes, the admitted gunman, was sane when he went into the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater and opened fire on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 70. His defense attorneys will try to spare Holmes’ life by arguing that he was insane. 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel.com will have gavel to gavel coverage of the trial starting at 8:15 a.m. (MST) everyday and ending around 5:30 p.m. (MST) Watch new live video on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/7NewsDenver/live Additional resources:LIVE VIDEO & BLOG: http://bit.ly/theatertrialTIMELINE of the case: http://bit.ly/theatertimelineJURY PROFILE: http://bit.ly/theaterjury CONTINUING COVERAGE: http://bit.ly/theatercoverage
I still keep thinking about Bob's comment earlier which pretty much sums it up for me about his sanity...Dr. Reid said that a psychotic break can happen at any time but they are not pre-planned...yet JH put on his calendar at home the symbol ahead of time on the shooting date! That has not left my mind all day!
Unless the DT can get / hire a witness that will actually say "Yes, JH meets the criteria for legal insanity" I think (hope) the jury is smart enough to come back with a guilty verdict. I'm still not 100% on the sentencing options, but the death penalty is looking like a very likely outcome unless the DT has and ace in the hole we don't know about.
Was searching for the video with sound and just watched an interesting version of it with commentary by Diane Sawyer and Dan Abrhams. So interesting so hear their comments at that time given what we know now.
