Day 2 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. Today, prosecutors open their case calling witnesses _____? During the course of the trial, prosecutors will argue that Holmes, the admitted gunman, was sane when he went into the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater and opened fire on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 70. Holmes childhood does not seem abnormal to me. I think Dr. Gur is trying to input into Holmes past things not there. It seems that Holmes is a selfish person who didn't get his way. And that, to me, is what GB is trying to show to the jury. That perhaps this mass murder is because of Holmes not being given his way. Seems to be more of an evil deliberate intent to murder rather than than due to the diagnosis Dr. Gur has given Holmes. Dr. Gur is looking very sloppy and making up stuff (not necessarily deliberately).

I personally do not believe she is lying or making things up. Her CV is extremely impressive and her credentials cannot be denied (despite that she is not board certified). She seems to have a phenomenal memory which is extremely common and beneficial for professional researchers. It is unfortunate that her report is not extremely detailed as it allows for the perception and interpretation that she is lying. She would not put her credibility and professional reputation at stake to make up details.

She is worse than a Phd student defending their desertation (sp?). At least the grad student is pretty sure they will be fact-checked and questioned. I don't think Dr. Gur ever thought anyone would dare to fact-check her. Very unprofessional.

@ litprof - I agree she is very intelligent in her field, but maybe her passion clouded her judgement of JH. AC is bringing up a lot of things that she came across doing but didn't.

if it is true that the DT denied access to Routh, Fenton and Feinstein as just testified to by Dr. Gur this is going to be HIGHLY problematic for the defense...I cannot believe she just went down that road...calls into question the whole basis for her report and opinions.

I feel that Dr. Gur's 50 pages of publications on her CV made her (and DT) believe that she is an unimpeachable witness, which is contributing to her hostility. DT should have gone with a more experienced expert witness as PT is not impressed with her reports or testimony.

It would be interesting to learn how much the DT has paid Dr. Gur--per hour or as an aggregate sum--to provide her expert opinion. I wonder how it would compare to court-appointed Dr. Reid's fees.
