How did his mood seem? "I guess it was OK, he didn't seem to mind working at the pill factory"
Robert Holmes said "If i had a major worry during that time, it was more that he didn't seem happy. He didn't seem depressed, but he didn't seem happy.:

"He hopped into his car and went to denver by himself. We came later and brought his snowboard and other stuff"

"In December he was really sick"

Robert Holmes says the doctor wrote a prescription to treat mono
"It seemed like most of December he spent kind of sleeping"
From Jan-July 2012, Robert Holmes says he talked to his son at least once, traded a few emails, but not much contact
"We knew he had broken up with his girlfriend and we also knew, the way he put it, the professor in his second lab got 'peeved.'"
Robert Holmes says he spoke to his son on the 4th of July, 2012. It was arranged by email in advance.
"Historically when we talked to him on the phone we get yes or no answers and little content, but this time it was different."
Robert Holmes says they'd heard from Dr. Fenton at that point and knew his son was dropping out
Robert Holmes says Dr. Fenton called his wife, and he understood his son was dropping out and seeing a psychiatrist
Robert Holmes says "she didn't tell us much, and that is part of what motivated us to get on the phone with Jim"
Robert Holmes says he'd been reading about Aspergers and believed it might fit his son
"we called him and we had what, for us, turned out out be a really long conversation"

At that point (July 4th) they made plans to visit their son
