Theater shooting trial day 21: More sanity examination video to be shown

Jurors can expect to see more video and hear more testimony from Dr. William Reid, the court-appointed psychiatrist who recorded over 22 hours of his interviews with Aurora movie theater shooting gunman James Holmes before deciding the shooter was legally sane.

My son has Aspergers (very slight) and has zero violent tendencies and is very smart. He empathizes well with others, but cannot always relate to other kids... Often due to how he thinks (logical) and can't play alongside them. Just my 2 cents on Aspergers. I cringe when it's brought into these types of situations bc I fear for how it changes the way people view those w the diagnosis...

I'm a speech therapist and have a niece with Aspergers, It absolutely doesn't fit with this scenario or other situations like this. What makes Aspergers different from other Autism is that they are more social, because being nonsocial is one of the hallmarks of Autism.

@Sara I am NOT saying anything negative about Aspburger's at all or equating it to violent tendencies or behavioral thoughts. Two TOTALLY different things. I'm a big advocate of mental health and helping other ppl understand, educate, empathize and have compassion for those who struggle w/ it.

My son was diagnosed with autism but i think he leans more towards aspergers, when he is in certain situations he does get aggressive because even tho he is very verbal he cannot express himself when upset. he is only 5 , so i disagree with aspergers being non violent. Although my son can be aggressive or violent i dont believe he would ever become a mass murder!

Let me clarify that with Autism it is not really non social but more they have trouble with the social language aspects of interactions. Such as a lack of comprehension of idioms or inside jokes, behavior considered odd, preferring to be alone or not touching other individuals, and lack of eye contact.

I have to be honest my feelings on his sanity have gone back and forth on occasion. 90% of the time I feel confident that he is sane, but I can't help thinking that if I have those moments of doubt, is the jury having them also?

Someone with Asperger's could logically state the consequences so they know, and it is not that they don't care, they don't necessarily understand what that could mean to them. Someone who tactically plans an attack based on amount of security, who booby traps a place to intentionally inflict harm to law enforcement dDOES understand. (Please, if I am misrepresenting Asperger's please correct me. I have cared for children with this but I have not had to live it!

Juror is not feeling well, but thinks she is ready to return. Judge allowing her to just signal for another break if she needs it. Also lowered temp in room to make her more comfortable
