Theater shooting trial day 38: Dr. Woodcock to return to the stand, jail video likely to be shown

Dr. Jonathan Woodcock, the defense's expert, is going to return to the stand for the remainder of his cross-examination Friday. James Holmes' attorneys are also likely to screen for the jury another jail video showing the gunman in November of 2012, around the time that they say his mental health condition became aggravated in the jail.

I'd be frustrated, too. Most of these are yes or no questions. All the doctor has to reply is "yes" or "no", and he refuses to do that with the majority of them.

I like Brauchler a lot. He obviously knows what he's doing. Hope the jury gets it too and can see past his frustration with this witness.

Brauchler is doing what he's supposed to do, what many prosecuting attorneys do. He's not there to be nice to the witnesses, he's there to get justice for the victims and their loved ones.

B. is just a bully kind of lawyer trying to manipulate the dr. cr you are correct, he can talk a good line, but either can't or won't hear. He's mean, not hard to see. His job is not to beat up someone who seems to be sincerely trying to teach the depth of serious illness.

Judge Samour is right on...this witness consistently avoids giving a responsive answer on cross. He clearly has a specific agenda and tries at all costs to insert answers to questions that Mr. Brauchler has not asked him. Playing softball with Mr. King on direct, Woodcock has no trouble answering in a straightforward way.

@katie - this judge has been extremely fair to both sides. The witness is desperately trying not to have to answer the questions as it will diminish his flawed opinion. GB or any other attorney has the authority to have his questions answered - as the judge is instructing

I don't think the judge is biased. I agree that Dr. Woodcock is not answering question, but rather trying to narrate such that the answer is veiled in verbiage. Appropriate at this juncture for the Judge to instruct him to answer the question.

Reminds me of prosecutor Gerrie Nel during the Oscar Pistorius trial reminding witnesses that he was asking simple questions and only required simple answers.

As intense and "rude" as some are perceiving GB to be, he is responsible for representing the victims of this horrendous crime and I, for one, would expect the same intensity and passion from him as we seem to expect and accept from the DT in their quest to defend their client!
