Theater shooting trial day 55: Phase 2 continues with defense witnesses
Defense attorneys will continue to call witnesses in the first full day of phase 2, where they are trying to show mitigating circumstances sufficient to convince the jury to spare their client's life. James Holmes was convicted last week of the 2012 Aurora movie theater shooting in which 12 people were killed and 70 were injured. Jurors also agreed with the prosecutors that sufficient aggravating circumstances were present to move forward to this stage.

The DT's entire case is now to recondition the jury that the convicted killer shall now be known as Jimmy.
We can call him Jimmy, Satan, Convicted Mass Murderer, or any other moniker the DT wishes. It changes nothing. They've lost, all the DT has left is psychological warfare against the jury. -
Maybe giving him life in prison would be best with how slow this trial is going. Think about it, if he gets death, that will just tack on decades of appeals and dragging everyone back into court and rehashing everything over and over and over. Maybe we shouldn't put the victims through that? Maybe it's time to try and heal and move on? Lock him away and that's that?

@ace. you put it perfectly. I don't see how the DP could possible be frowned upon. as intelligent as he repeatedly is made out to be, someone of that kinda of intellect in no way shape or form would be incapable of thinking out the reality of what he is about to do. Line crossed indeed. I am a firm believer of an eye for an eye and don't see how if I was a victim or realitive of the deceased of this could possibly be ok with knowing he still gets the gift of life when he clearly and sanely demonstrated he didn't give about others life when he walked in that theater. I do however feel sorry for his parents knowing that he committed this act and that one day, their son could be executed. but he was a fully functioning adult and knew the potential consequences of his actions

Regarding the DP: I will not hide my opposition to it. I will confess that I have a family member who has committed heinous crimes; a family member from whom I am detached enough to have an objective judgment (although I know that ojectivity doesn't really exist in situations like this.) But even my hatred of crimes like my uncle's and JH's don't make me believe in the DP. This is not a "turning the other cheek" in any way. LWP, yes. But I reject what returning death for death says about us as a civilization. These are my feelings. And it's the last time I'll impose that particular opinion this forum.

All this is way too cutesy. Jimmy, Chrissy, Jo Jo. And what does this dog and pony show have to do with the fact that "Jimmy", as nice and warm a kid as he could be, massacred 12 people and left countless others crippled for life? I'm not buying it and I hope the jury doesn't either. -

@Tammy - Been watching since Day #1, but I can't remember if they mentioned anything about his dad visiting Mr Holmes in CO (pre-incident). I can tell you, from personal experience, that highly intelligent people, especially those who are used to being independent and "loners" are extremely capable of hiding psychotic behaviour. Probably because they know they will be shunned from the only people who love them, and will most definitely be shunned from society. It's a catch 22. On one hand they hate society enough to commit an atrocity against it, but on the other hand they're lashing out for society rejecting them in the first place.
