This is where victim driven prosecutions have brought us- to this kind of abomination. The victim advocacy pendulum has swung way too far in the other direction. I know this is considered politically incorrect, like not supporting the troops, but why can't we all be satisfied with LWOP for "the gunman?"

why not encourage hope and love for the survivors and friends, they are distraught. only if they do something that will make life bearable and rewarding will they find peace. DP will only prolong their pain and create an inescapable trap. Many people know tt the DP will not help them in any way it is painful to see this because it is so emotional and so many people in CO express a deepening hate that is going to eat them up, rather than give them solace and inspiration to do something good in the world. Hate never wins, DP allows people to become the object of their hatred.

I hope that Pearson is asking the judge to move it on and wrap it up

I think mom's comments are intended to show the nature of his character and the absence of criminal or violent/aggressive traits. That can also be a mitigating factor -- you don't have to be a Boy Scout to show that. It also reduces the probability that there was anything other than mental illness to account for his behavior.

@okx, it is the victims and their families who requested the DP be sought. Who are we to tell them how to deal with their grief and loss?

My conclusion from defense testimony- this is an indulged, spoiled, self involved, self centered individual who was raised to think he was the center of the universe with helicopter parents who manipulated every move he made. Examples: made him participate in cross country, church work, volunteering - all with one motive COLLEGE (All important on an application).....Helpful with scholarship programs acceptance, placement. When the house of cards came down at CU end resul t go out in a burst of self-centered importance to make himself remembered.
