"I want to say we went out to dinner at least once a week. We all saw each other at least once a week"
Amanda last spoke to Micayla a few days before the shooting, when they discussed their grandmother's birthday (which was July 20)
Objection overruled, question was if they celebrate the birthday on that day
"Celebrations are dulled and limited, but we definitely are still a close family and we still get together and celebrate each others lives"
Amanda says she was selfish and in bed at 5am. She didn't answer when her dad called. The voicemail took a long time
"I listneed to the voicemail and it said -- my dad just trying to be strong..." interrupted by hearsay objection. Judge will allow it.
"My dad said Micayla had been shot..." demonstrates what she did. "My mind was racing and I grabbed whatever I could from the closet"
"I just started asking questions..." Amanda said when she arrived at the hospital. They called all the hospitals over and over
She then went to every hospital in person looking for her sister
"I went to hospitals they weren't admitting people to"
"I just went everywhere and I kept getting called back to Gateway HS to be interviewed by the police and be interviewed by victims advocates"
"I just kept repeating her name M-i-c-a-y-a M-e-d-e-k"
She was called back to the HS to see a photo of her sister's license
"There were 12 sets of people just in these chairs" Objection , overruled
There were over 150 people at her parent's house, Amanda says
"We got a call and 2 black cars came down the end of the street."
"All i remember is my knees buckling and slamming into the concrete floor... I have a hard time remembering what happened after that"
@SallyMander: Outside my contro, but I'll pass it along
Now asking Amanda to describe photos of Micayla
"You never expect to lose your kid before you go, you know." Amanda says her parents have bonded together, both are on antidepressants. Both have a lot of anger, a lot of grief
"Its a hard subject to bring up"
Amanda says she was self-medicating
"I don't have these monumental occasions.. my sister is not going to be there"... "It is really hard to change the format of your life, this whole new paradigm of being an only child"
Amanda says "I can't walk into a movie theater" any more
