Theater shooting trial day 63: Phase 3 closing arguments
Jurors will come face to face with the ultimate question in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial: Should James Holmes be put to death by lethal injection?
@Blues - I was just thinking that (about the judge's accent). Most of the time I listen to the trial through speakers at work, as opposed to watching it on my screen. I've gotten quite fond of his voice and will miss it.

I believe he's toast with no jelly!
by Tjq8/6/2015 8:05:43 PM
@Chuck, as I understand it, MA is one of the few states, maybe only eastern that never signed the final deal on dp, it was suspended until the marathon bomber case. that young man is on d. row? Isn't this correct
by yourneighbor8/6/2015 8:05:46 PM
@trl2- since the cup trick is common, maybe he read about that while doing his preliminary research on mental illnesses?
by CO newbie8/6/2015 8:05:50 PM
The time delay between the video and real life is VERY long now. Used to only be a few seconds, now it 20 minutes or more!
by Sophia8/6/2015 8:05:51 PM
I'm pretty sure I've heard AC say "our six year old" but it was more like "our six year old victim"
by Proph8/6/2015 8:05:54 PM
@gwash: I believe that if there is even one hold-out, JH gets LWOP.
by Nadine8/6/2015 8:05:59 PM
I love Judge Samour --- to me he's reached celebrity status!
by Poppy8/6/2015 8:06:00 PM
Anyone want to guess how long the jury will take to decide?
by Babette8/6/2015 8:06:03 PM
I have been here since day 1 but seldom comment. This has been a heart wrenching situation by all accounts. Regardless of the outcome I wish all of the victim's surviving relatives peace of mind and closure.

And apparently my feed is several minutes behind /:
by Proph8/6/2015 8:06:06 PM
@Kels -- I'm hoping for one more "penultimate"
by Lynn8/6/2015 8:06:08 PM
relax, as dylan said, its life and life only. get more on our plate, all kinds of things happen get off the killing train, no matter where it comes from within you or outside of you it is not about you brief moment of time
by yourneighbor8/6/2015 8:06:14 PM
Phil, how many DP cases make it to phase 3 and what has been the outcome?
by djs8/6/2015 8:06:15 PM
What will life be like for JH while he is in prison? Daily life with LWOP. Daily life if on death row?
by Kathy8/6/2015 8:06:19 PM
@PT -- Aren't those the drugs that states are having a hard time procuring? They've caused some pretty gruesome executions.
by Lynn8/6/2015 8:06:21 PM
lethal injection only old or sick people who chose death should have this option, and please make it some kind of pill
by yourneighbor8/6/2015 8:06:23 PM
New poll: who do we have the biggest crush on - Brauchler or Samour??
by Sophia8/6/2015 8:06:26 PM
Sophia -I respect & learn from your opinion a ton, so I'll defer to you on the Brady being DT's best...but her objection (s) timing & style really turned off the jury, imo (& clearly you are in the field of law & know so much more about strategy, caselaw, etc.). For me, as a juror/citizen, she would've bothered me for her lack of respect for victims, not her voice. I think Nelson's actually the best DT has for showing humanity/emotion during victim testimony only... (***Not for post-jury proceedings, instructions, asking Dad for permission to use the car, etc.). ;) !!!
by BluesB 8/6/2015 8:06:33 PM
How did any of the defense think that having a columbine survivor was a good idea they screwed themselves i hope they made numorous objections to it
by john8/6/2015 8:06:35 PM
This is a dumb question, but is Phil the guy we see on the screen during breaks and lunch hour?
by Nadine8/6/2015 8:06:38 PM
I'm already mad at the self righteous lectures I know will be delivered (yelled at) to the jury in defense of the poor young swiveling man.
by Sophia8/6/2015 8:06:44 PM
this will go down in history of CO with blacks working on the railroad under the KKK, Sand Creek massacre, just another celebrated day for murder by citizens. You are people, but beings, no.
by messenger8/6/2015 8:06:53 PM
Phil-is there time to poll on if folks think PT will rebut or let DT get 'last word' only one time. .? That's really interesting to me. I know it'll partially depend on how closings go...
by BluesB 8/6/2015 8:06:54 PM
Don;t know if this has been asked and answered, other than juror misconduct at this point are there any other grounds for mistrial?
by Resa8/6/2015 8:06:57 PM
Will JH be on suicide watch if he gets the DP?
by Poppy8/6/2015 8:06:59 PM
Sodium thiopental is a short acting barbiturate which is used in anesthesia. An IL company stopped manufacturing in 2011. It was on FDA list for shortage but no longer is.
by trl28/6/2015 8:07:01 PM
could the judge make his own ruling if he gets the verdict and maybe doesnt agree??
by Anne8/6/2015 8:07:04 PM
in prison will he be in a cell by himself? what will his privileges be? will he get to go outside? have a job? access to educational material? visitors? to me that's important in the death vs life argument.
by AW 8/6/2015 8:07:09 PM
What will my days look like without this trial, you all, and my crush, Carlos to give structure to my life? lol
by sher8/6/2015 8:07:11 PM
lethal injection is burning the body from the inside out for a very sick mentally ill man! Bravo! CO! save yurself if you can after your killing, show yur face, dp advocates other than politicans are usually hooded, like right now, you are
by messenger8/6/2015 8:07:15 PM
@PT -- When the verdict is reached, does all of the evidence immediately become public?
by Lynn8/6/2015 8:07:26 PM
If Holmes gets the DP, his family will be in pain, but it is hard to imagine the defendant caring much one way or the other. He may care less than anyone in the entire courtroom. That may be due to his illness/medication, but I tend to think he just does not give a flip.
by Megh8/6/2015 8:07:29 PM
@Kels, re Judge Samour saying asterisk: you can get a recording of it and make it your ring tone. :-)
by MyraJ8/6/2015 8:07:33 PM
Not what you say, it's how you say it? Me thinks court is beyond such banalities.
by Reggie8/6/2015 8:07:39 PM
@Phil Have you heard for Marshall in the court room at all today if all of the families are present today or not?
by LG8/6/2015 8:07:43 PM
Since it's a public trial, how it is ensured that the families of the victims get seats? Is it a first-come-served type of access?
by Poppy8/6/2015 8:07:44 PM
I'm guessing there will be a verdict tomorrow.
by Sue8/6/2015 8:07:46 PM
One of the best judges I ever seen or heard, very professional, fair, explains everything..
by Jean8/6/2015 8:07:47 PM
He will no doubt be in solitary/protective custody.
by AW8/6/2015 8:07:48 PM
@chuck let's hope so, so some time can be given to more comprehensive mental health issues. he certainly doesn't deserve death and maybe he can be restored to his former healthy self and provide insight that only he has of this elusive disease
by messenger8/6/2015 8:07:51 PM
Why did Holmes not stand when answering the judge yesterday?
by wp8/6/2015 8:07:54 PM
@Phil, you're so cute.
by Resa8/6/2015 8:07:55 PM
Does anyone else need to sign in like every 5 minutes?
by Tired8/6/2015 8:07:57 PM
Phil...I see you working for CNN one day with your own show. We can say we remember you from this trial!
