I would guess some of those witnesses wanted to be up there to tell the jury who their loved ones were, why their lives mattered and why the death penalty, to them, is appropriate.

@notford - respectfully disagree. I am in favor of the DP. This is exactly the situation for which it was created. Citizens of the State of Colorado voted for it. Victim impact statements are part of any murder case, REGARDLESS of DP or not....

you keep going on and on about justice = redemption, but one of the pillars of criminal justice is punishment. Punishment is a legitimate goal of the criminal justice system.
