Theater shooting trial day 63: Phase 3 closing arguments
Jurors will come face to face with the ultimate question in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial: Should James Holmes be put to death by lethal injection?
I have worked as a court reporter for 30 years and I very rarely see attorneys work as hard as this defense team.

The DT would have been better served if she said nothing at all!!!!
by mld8/6/2015 9:40:42 PM
@Sophia...I agree. @notfordp...be prepared to be shocked
by PA Watcher8/6/2015 9:40:44 PM
The death of one so evil is appropriate.
by JW8/6/2015 9:40:45 PM
Death penalty would be a good punishment
by gem8/6/2015 9:40:46 PM
Brady spoke for 28:40 seconds.
by Cindy L8/6/2015 9:40:47 PM
JH has not criminal background whatsoever.
by notfordp8/6/2015 9:40:48 PM
@Greg Edwards: like Jeffrey Dahmer? I don't think he lasted 18 months in the Wisconsin max slammer before another inmate killed him.
by tg_kendall8/6/2015 9:40:53 PM
I wonder if the jury feels like they are in church being with a pulpit pounding preacher?
by Anita Bowen8/6/2015 9:40:55 PM
Putting him in a cell is not punishment for him.
by caz8/6/2015 9:40:57 PM
They both did great jobs. They are talented attorneys and speakers.
by Lynn8/6/2015 9:40:58 PM
he won't be in gen pop
by CSP8/6/2015 9:40:59 PM
@notfordp-- it's happened before...
by Proph8/6/2015 9:41:10 PM
Mr. Brauchler--you probably shouldn't feel the need to rebut that weak closing statement. You've already won this....
by flip8/6/2015 9:41:13 PM
"Please, no more death." That makes me think of JH and the only reason there wasn't more death was that his gun jammed. He would've continued the deaths.
by Sue8/6/2015 9:41:14 PM
Whoa no rebuttal?
by colo8/6/2015 9:41:16 PM
Fenton is at fault. Brady is just being kind. And Fenton is being sued by some of the victims
by notfordp8/6/2015 9:41:17 PM
No rebuttal?????
by Poppy8/6/2015 9:41:19 PM
wow
by caz8/6/2015 9:41:20 PM
It kind of bugs me how they keep bringing up James' history of "not causing trouble" and the lack of a criminal record. Most mass murderers (especially modern spree/mass shooters and killers) dont have criminal records, and the shooting is their final act (whether they kill themselves, suicide by cop, or are incarcerated for life)
by Eric S.8/6/2015 9:41:28 PM
@CSP- she did have a tough job and not a lot to work with. She did the best she could with what she had to work with.
by MW8/6/2015 9:41:32 PM
If it was all due to mental illness, then why did he not beg for mercy on his knees now that his illness is under "control" ?
by Carolet in Denver8/6/2015 9:41:34 PM
I call BS on the defense team. They are contradicting their OWN arguments. SHAMEFUL to bring up mental illness from HIM...his only " illness" was studied and faked. He created mental illness in his surviving victims lives. That is the ONLY mental illness I will ever acknowledge in this case, that which he brought on by his actions. And to try and guilt the jurors that they alone have to live with their decision. We ALL live with their decision, and thankfully they all seem to be smart and brave. I do not evny them this decision, but want to thank each and every one of them and let them know I will think of them and pray for them as I do all of us affected by this tragedy.
by SJW8/6/2015 9:41:41 PM
Wow....unexpected...no rebuttal.
by trl28/6/2015 9:41:43 PM
He is not insane but he is seriously mentally ill
by notfordp8/6/2015 9:41:44 PM
bwahahahaha does she actually believe that he will be punished by a life sentence ??? I guess so... but even with a life sentence I hope the prisoners take really good care of JH by giving him what he wants and hope he will have many visitors in his cell every night until he is taken care of!
by Greg Edwards8/6/2015 9:41:48 PM
@mandi I dont think DA can do a rebutall ...PT can because they have to prove things DA doesn't
by LG8/6/2015 9:41:49 PM
thanks docj nothing like a killing doc
by yourneighbor8/6/2015 9:41:51 PM
GameOver, DP tomorrow.
by Rabon8/6/2015 9:41:52 PM
DA was smart after Brady's bad rambling, one trick pony defense, to not do a rebuttal and allow Brady to correct her poor performance.
by Cindy L8/6/2015 9:41:54 PM
Please no more death.
by notfordp8/6/2015 9:41:55 PM
Smart for Brauchler to not give rebuttal. His close much stronger than Brady's - he knows the jury knows that too
by WSLC8/6/2015 9:41:57 PM
I wanted one more brauchlerfest
by caz8/6/2015 9:41:58 PM
Marti, he would've only gone to a mental institution if the jury had found him not guilty by reason of insanity. They found him guilty, so he will go to prison, no mental institution.
by Sue8/6/2015 9:42:02 PM
think they will come to a verdict today?
by mandi8/6/2015 9:42:03 PM
but I still think he should be put to death
by nofordp8/6/2015 9:42:03 PM
Any guesses how long the jury will deliberate?
by Marti8/6/2015 9:42:04 PM
Well, it is now up to the jurors...Good Luck to them.
by npc8/6/2015 9:42:06 PM
Wow...Brady's closing argument didn't even warrant a rebuttal! Go GB!! She was obviously delusional while giving her arguments....
by JAM8/6/2015 9:42:08 PM
if i was to give someone the death sentence that would make me a killer also, sorry thats just not the answer.
by Tanya8/6/2015 9:42:11 PM
Closings took much shorter than expected. Any chance the jury could return a verdict today?
by WSLC8/6/2015 9:42:12 PM
She was so crappy that Brauchler doesn't need to dignify with a rebuttal. Ha! Shooter is done for. Bring on the appeals (sigh). Like you said, Flip...'more time to exchange thoughts/quips for centuries...
by BluesB 8/6/2015 9:42:15 PM
He would never be put in general population DocJ...
by JAM8/6/2015 9:42:17 PM
Marti, he won't be in a psychiatric facility. He'll be in prison.
by cheese and rice8/6/2015 9:42:18 PM
If they were to make a decision today, would we have to wait until tomorrow to find out due to the 3 hour wait?
