Theater shooting trial day 64: The life-or-death verdict for James Holmes
NOTE: This video is a placeholder, waiting to begin until the three-hours warning is issued by the court that a verdict was reached. Will James Holmes be put to death by lethal injection for the 12 people he killed inside an Aurora, Colorado movie theater? Or will the jury send him to prison for the rest of his life?Jurors are about to come face-to-face with the ultimate decision in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial: "Should James Eagan Holmes be put to death by lethal injection?"Jurors have already confirmed they found aggravating factors in the mass shooting for which they convicted the gunman. They also confirmed that any mitigating factors that might exist do not outweigh the aggravating factors. Holmes was convicted on 165 counts including murder and attempted murder for the shooting that killed 12 and injured 70 others during a midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. His defense attorneys unsuccessfully argued that he was insane at the time of the shooting. 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel.com will have gavel to gavel coverage of the trial starting at 8:30a.m. (MST) everyday and ending around 5:30 p.m. (MST) Watch new live video on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/7NewsDenver/live Additional resources:LIVE VIDEO & BLOG: http://bit.ly/theatertrialTIMELINE of the case: http://bit.ly/theatertimelineJURY PROFILE: http://bit.ly/theaterjury CONTINUING COVERAGE: http://bit.ly/theatercoverage

FYI death penalty costs more than LIP
by An8/7/2015 11:27:07 PM
More than $3 million and this result was offered to Brauchler 2 years ago. Too bad he wanted a gubernatorial run . . . taxpayers are the sucker here.
by Gamma8/7/2015 11:27:13 PM
I can not believe this! No justice at all.
by Deb8/7/2015 11:27:14 PM
I just hope people in prison make him pay.
by he lives while they died8/7/2015 11:27:15 PM
Well, he wins. He gets what he wants.
by Tammy Garrison8/7/2015 11:27:17 PM
I think Judge Samore is the most honorable man, other than Hubby, that I have ever witnessed. It has been an honor to be able to observe him.
by DocJ8/7/2015 11:27:19 PM
This is justice. Whether you agree with it or not.
by Clancy8/7/2015 11:27:20 PM
I think there was a juror who was never going to vote for the DP and got Jimmy a suite for life
by mandi8/7/2015 11:27:21 PM
Prosecution still "won", if that's the word used. Ultimately, he was found guilty, not let off due to the insanity excuse.
by Sue8/7/2015 11:27:23 PM
Jimmy already acting different now that jury is out.
by BluesB 8/7/2015 11:27:24 PM
I thought for sure he would get DP for Veronica! She was 6 years old for pete's sake!!!
by Mandy L8/7/2015 11:27:29 PM
t east the families won't have to sit through tis nightmare again and again for Jimmy's appeal. Let him rot. At least the people of CO won't waste anymore money on this freak
by Where's GB?8/7/2015 11:27:31 PM
never bring another death penalty to court.
by the essence of this...8/7/2015 11:27:36 PM
What difference does it make?
by Tammy Garrison8/7/2015 11:27:37 PM
How is the sentencing hearing going to take 3 days? He's guilty, he has been sentenced to LWOP, what else is there to do?
by DocJ8/7/2015 11:27:39 PM
He was found guilty of murder, at least he was not allowed the Not Guilty by reason of insanity defense
by Geohas38/7/2015 11:27:43 PM
@Phil: Would you please consider adding another item to your current poll--"There are no winners in this case"?
by Keeter8/7/2015 11:27:46 PM
by Phil Tenser8/7/2015 11:27:50 PM
More Shenanigans by DT!!!!!! I know this is their job, but I am seriously starting to hate them.
by DocJ8/7/2015 11:27:51 PM
Will next sentencing hearing be streamed live?
by TAMI in GA8/7/2015 11:27:55 PM
@TAMIinGA: we've gotta work that out, but we will consider it now
by Phil Tenser8/7/2015 11:28:07 PM
Of course I can't watch those days....
by Tammy Garrison8/7/2015 11:28:09 PM
ohh goodie,, I get to contribute to paying for this monster to live his life
by Death_is_Justice8/7/2015 11:28:14 PM
DT are mentally high-giving each other
by MyraJ8/7/2015 11:28:15 PM

by charles8/7/2015 11:28:17 PM
Brady's exhibit to the jury was really gross
by caz8/7/2015 11:28:18 PM
Thought they'd at least find the DP for Veronica.
by Tammy Garrison8/7/2015 11:28:19 PM
I am sure this has been asked, but is the Channel 7 team going to cover the 24-25th hearings via this venue?
by vt8/7/2015 11:28:21 PM
@vt: We've got to work on logistics, but we'll try
by Phil Tenser8/7/2015 11:28:33 PM
No one wins.....
by KS8/7/2015 11:28:35 PM
Will the exhibits that were kept from public viewing now be made public?
by TAMI in GA8/7/2015 11:28:37 PM
I just want to say that it was nice meeting all of you, and I think this gave all of us a little of law education. Thank you 7News for covering this every day, and the work you all have put in to make this possible for us.
by EZ8/7/2015 11:28:39 PM
Brauchler doesn't seem to have the same arrogance! LOL
by LK8/7/2015 11:28:39 PM
I'm hoping the families and victims can begin the healing process. JH will never see the light of day. The state of Colorado will also not have to waste millions of dollars on appeals. Believe it or not it IS cheaper to keep him in prison for life than on death row.
America's hearts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this horrible event, hoping you can be at peace.
by Me8/7/2015 11:28:45 PM
So do you think Brady will give Jimmy a hug?
by Nadine8/7/2015 11:28:47 PM
Keeter, I need to go back and change my vote then.
by Tammy Garrison8/7/2015 11:28:48 PM
Aug 24 at 8:30 will be that next hearing for the other 141 counts
by Phil Tenser8/7/2015 11:28:52 PM
Correct me if im wrong but i believe there are automatic appeals for LWOP as well
by debitwo8/7/2015 11:37:30 PM
King grinning ear-to-ear and patting Spengler on the back, until he realized there are still victims' family members in the gallery watching...ugh!
by flip8/7/2015 11:37:31 PM
Disappointed, but have to respect the jury. LOVE the judge even more. This trial was NOT a waste of time or money, even if there was a plea offer (which there was not). Publicly airing the facts of this case and the entire process ( thank you Phil and ch 7!) was very important. Hearing for 3 years about "12 fatalities" was NOTHING like seeing, hearing and feeling the truth of the devastation from this man's actions. Learning about 'insanity' vs 'mental illness' was eye opening. watching these lawyers and this judge do their jobs was inspiring. And I will NEVER forget these victims or their families, and never forget the first responders, and never forget those 911 phone calls. And we all learned from all the commenters.
by Sophia8/7/2015 11:51:34 PM
LOVE you Clancy!
by LK8/7/2015 11:51:36 PM
Prosecution most certainly did NOT "win." This is the outcome offered to them 3 years ago.
by Gamma8/7/2015 11:51:37 PM
7 news analyst saying he may be "evaluated" for his illness & then placed in an "appropriate " facility????? Tell me that is INCORRECT!!!!
