Because I couldn't trust this chatroom to run itself respectfully, and i now have to moderate the posts, please be advised that once court begins there may be significant delay between the time you send a comment and I actually have the chance to read/approve it
@smoothsn: only to deny his allocution opportunity
Still no signal from the courtroom yet... we're waiting but ready
we are still waiting for the signal to begin. Was scheduled for 9am, but we'll see momentarily
judge informing gunman he can seek appeal, however, defense said yesterday they will not do that
Judge says he'll make comments, take a break, then do the sentencing. At the sentencing, gunman will need to go to the podium
Judge: "I believe in this system. I said that yesterday and I'll say it again"
"they felt like the defendant prevailed in this case, so let me address that because really it depends on your perspective"
"When it comes to the outcome of the case, is the glass half full or is it half empty?"
"It was actually only last month, on july 16, a jury of the defendant's peers, 12 member of the community who had given us their time their effort their best in a very difficult case under very diffuclt circumstances walked into this court room and informed us they had found the defendant guilty."
"It feels like rejection. It feels like you asked someone for something and that someone said no. it feels like defeat. But the truth is that nothing in the sentencing verdict, nothing, changes the guilty verdicts"
"I get that those victims who wanted a death sentence are disappointed in the final sentencing verdicts. I understand that. But does that mean that the defendant prevailed? I supposed that it depends on your perspective. Is the glass half full or is it half empty?"
