Theater shooting trial: Non-capital sentencing hearing
James Holmes will learn his punishment for 141 other crimes tied to this case in a hearing that begins Monday; these crimes include the charges for explosives planted in his apartment.Victims, families and the gunman will have another chance to address the court, similar to the other sentencing phase. The key difference is that there will be no jury in this hearing and the sentencing decisions will all be made by the judge.

Shame on the judge for not having compassion on her for pouring her heart out in a reasonable, weighed, compassionate, logical and honest way. Though lengthy, it was real and respectful and logical. His response was distasteful, condescending, foolish and heartless. Maybe it's his job to, I don't know. Either way, he should be ashamed of his response. He doesn't "completely understand" having to testify or share the impact. There's no way for him to. What a shame Judge Samour, what a shame. She can claim there was no justice if that's how it feels to her and her family. She can say whatever she wanted to. The judge's response was disgusting and indicative of a seared conscious... what a shame...

There are 2 DOC prisons specifically to handle inmates with mental health issues. One is located on the grounds oof State Hospital in Pueblo. The other is located at Centennial (Colorado Max) just east of Canon City. Prisoners are not kept in isolation but general population within those facilities. Don't think either will be pleasant for him. They are both 'prisons.' -
Judge Samour hit on the current nerve of many. It seems to be a common thread for people to call for "justice" when the underlying meaning is that they want their perceived outcome to prevail. Society should re-evaluate. Justice is a process and not an outcome. Judge S. addressed that.

Totally agree with anonymous! Just once in this trial victims should be allowed to speak freely with out censure (or lectures) first time in the whole trial in that judge has disappointed me. He's been awesome otherwise - this time he was 'ignorant' of the feelings and frustration felt by the victim. What does 12 life sentences and 500 years REALLY mean? JH will never serve out his sentence.

Nothing should be "pleasant" for the murderer. When discussing where he should be housed, I don't feel like his comfort or liking where he is matters. I do think he should be in general population, but I also would like enough protection for him that he isn't given the gift of an early death--I hope he spends a good long time awake, aware and thinking of the lives he irrevocably altered and the people he hurt--including his own family. He doesn't seem to have a conscience.

Life sentence is a severe sentence, but it was HER PLACE to imply that she FELT like it was not a severe sentence because she was invited to share the impact of the trial, in all aspects, including the ruling and her feelings and thoughts therein. For the judge to, AGAIN, come down on Mrs. Porciau like she is intolerant or incompetent (which her speech showed she is neither) after the break is FURTHER arrogant and insensitive. She can imply whatever she feels because she is not the jury, she and her daughter and husband and families were victims. Is this not the time for victims and families to voice their impact.... or is this the time for the judge to explain the whole justice system, which can be disagreed with, right after someone just poured the last three hellish years of their life out in only 30 minutes?

What about the Aurora Victims Advocacy group, which has brought in millions in donations? Why call attention to the nuttier fringes of the net?
