Theater shooting trial day 53: Start of the penalty process
Day 53 in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial – People vs. James Eagan Holmes. Today, the penalty phase of the case begins. The jury found Holmes to be legally sane and therefore guilty when he went into the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater and opened fire on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 70.
I hate my keyboard. I am a literature professor, yet I leave words out of sentences. My post to Nadine should have read, "It happened after the verdict was given."

I'm not trolling I've been here for months. Decided to post about a month ago, am regretting it now. No one will allow me to have my own opinions about anything. If differs from yours, so you all attack me. Hypocrites...

@Channel 7 as a new station, can the person from Newsweek lose their job?
by LG7/22/2015 9:13:13 PM
Don`t steal our identities it could be a grave risk of death.
by Bane7/22/2015 9:13:16 PM
@me for real?? you called us a mob as people have pointed out. also, no need for third person. we're all equals here.
by blue7/22/2015 9:13:19 PM
Tammy - I'm with you...curious about which video- maybe Dr. Reid's, (?) when shooter describes wanting to keep victims inside theater, describes "collateral damage", saying he'd shoot if they surrendered, watched specific people try to flee & then shot at them?? Maybe?
by fascinated 7/22/2015 9:13:25 PM
I'm confused, I thought the DT had witnesses that could only testify today? this week? and then not until August. But then we had all those objections. Can somebody provide a likely scenario of the timeframe as to when witnesses will testify? I though I was paying attention . . .
by Mr. D.7/22/2015 9:13:27 PM
What does the jury need to watch?
by Jennifer7/22/2015 9:20:20 PM
@Fascinated I seriously have no idea what you are talking about. Haven't change my name nor intend to. I meant I have issues that it was the juror that had to bring up the issue to the court and it was a WELL KNOWN FACT WITHIN THE MEDIA and even the COURT what happened with newsweek last week but NO ONE made it an issue until the Jury Foreman did. So if you serve on a jury beware the court wont protect you until you ask them too!

Very true, Blue.
by fascinated 7/22/2015 9:20:58 PM
polls, I'm a hardcore Christian and a pastor, and I would give him the death penalty.
by Tammy Garrison7/22/2015 9:21:01 PM
@polisalwaysright how do you know that?
by LG7/22/2015 9:21:04 PM
Boy, has this blog gone down hill. Trolls need to go! I've been in this blog from the beginning and it use to be informational. Not feel like some people want to shove their opinions down everyone's throat.
by Steve7/22/2015 9:21:19 PM
This is my first experience of commenting on any kind of format, and have no experience with trolling. My niavity (can't spell it) I can't distingish who's trolling and who's not I thought it was all just peoples opnions. Some stronger than others. derrr me Thanks to all those who have been pointing the trolls out
by Aly7/22/2015 9:21:30 PM
fascinated, I wondered about that, but they just need 1 aggravating factor.
by Tammy Garrison7/22/2015 9:21:42 PM
@fascinated - I dont believe Dr. Reid's videos would be allowed since these were allowed in the trial for the limited purpose of the insanity defense. Which I believe they said this morning were now not allowed to be considered since there is no longer a defense of insanity...
by colo7/22/2015 9:21:48 PM
Anyone else just ASTONISHED that they're taking this long & want a dvd player? I thought Orman nailed it!!? Did I miss something...? They are doubting if this was indifferent, heinous, etc.?? I am really surprised...
by fascinated 7/22/2015 9:21:56 PM
@polisalwaysright, Remember, being able to consider imposing the death penalty was a requirement during jury selection.
by Mr. D.7/22/2015 9:22:00 PM
@polisalwaysright. I'm a hard core Catholic and I'm totally in favor of the death penalty.
by Nadine7/22/2015 9:22:04 PM
This has to be a DT scheme to roll the Foreman, in an attempt to get a Lib in place.
by NT87/22/2015 9:22:06 PM
The judge got a little annoyed with the DT yesterday about the witnesses they wish to call. The judge has the authority to enforce their subpoenas no matter what their schedules are. The DT did not ask the judge to do so, but is asking the court to schedule around the witnesses personal schedules.
by vt7/22/2015 9:22:26 PM
think this goes to the murder of Veronica Moser - maybe jailhouse testimony of JH asking if a child was killed
by mandi7/22/2015 9:22:30 PM
I think we should all be very careful on here to not exacerbate the situation by hinting who the juror is. I don't want to know and we certainly don't want channel 7 being subject to questionable ethics.
by litprof7/22/2015 9:25:12 PM
Mr. D., they thought they were going to get to it today.
by Tammy Garrison7/22/2015 9:25:18 PM
Jennifer, that's what we all want to know.
by Tammy Garrison7/22/2015 9:25:22 PM
Jury has come back with an answer to the question. Judge Samour will take the bench in moments, per Rob McCallum, court spokesperson.
by anica.padilla7/22/2015 9:30:20 PM
@litprof - agree completely. these people serving on this jury deserve more respect
by colo7/22/2015 9:30:42 PM
I personally think we should give the jury foreman his privacy...and not post personal details about him on here, etc. His voice was shaking when he addressed the judge about it. :/ Otherwise, we're just as bad as Newsweek- in a way. I wouldn't want to be scrutinized like that...
by fascinated 7/22/2015 9:30:54 PM
colo, so what videos do they have?
by Tammy Garrison7/22/2015 9:30:56 PM
What happened when they went to a break, stood up, done for the day, what's up? I was talking to a coworker! Fill me in!
by Kels7/22/2015 9:31:05 PM
@ 7 is the you tube chat channel gone?
by dragonfish0007/22/2015 9:31:09 PM
YouTube chat room is still available, and being watched by about 10 newly deputized moderators.
by anica.padilla7/22/2015 9:31:39 PM
@Tammy I was under them impression that the Methodist church has a rather firm stance against the death penalty....
by Me7/22/2015 9:31:41 PM
You could be right, Mandi...but then again, didn't PT nail down so many of the other qualifiers? I just don't know...!!?!
by fascinated 7/22/2015 9:31:47 PM
@Aly -- completely unrelated life tip. Naive is Evian spelled backwards.

by Sunrise77/22/2015 9:31:55 PM
Thanks, Colo-I believe you're right!
by fascinated 7/22/2015 9:31:56 PM
Can someone answer my question: Could the revelation of the foreman's identity be a case for a mistrial?
